Our story

Handgelaat began with Heidi — the founder, driving force and familiar face behind the brand. She dreamed of building something meaningful: a business rooted in family, creativity and beautiful pieces made to be used, loved and kept.

Beside her is Henk — the creative mind and skilled hands behind the pieces Handgelaat creates itself. He sees possibility in a piece of leather or wood, dreams up new ideas and patiently turns them into something tangible.

Together, Heidi and Henk are raising two beautiful daughters. Family is at the heart of Handgelaat and one of the biggest reasons behind what they are building: a life filled with purpose, while still being present for the moments that matter most.

Above all, their love for the Lord is the foundation of their home, their family and the way they grow Handgelaat — with gratitude, honesty and care.

Alongside their own creations, they carefully select handmade pieces from other South African makers whose work shares the same heart and attention to detail.

Handgelaat is their story taking shape — Heidi bringing the vision, heart and people together, and Henk transforming ideas into pieces made to be treasured.
